Turnstile: A type of rotating gate that allows only
one person through per valid card read..

Unbuffer: A panel mode in which transactions are
not stored in the panel’s RAM memory. When a
panel is unbuffered, it transmits stored information
to a computer, then continues to transmit ongoing
access transactions to that computer. See Buffer.
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS): A device
that continues to provide power even after the main
power has been accidentally shut down. It also
protects equipment against voltage spikes that can
cause damage.
Unshunt: See Shunt.

Users: The people who operate the system directly
through the software: operators.
User Defined Fields: User-customizable fields for
the Card Holder Database.

Wiegand Card: A card that has specially treated
wires embedded in it that, when it passes through a
Wiegand reader, emit a discrete electrical signal.
